The Nationals’ Jerry Hairston, Jr., went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI against his former team and Jason Marquis got out of jams all night as Washington extended their win streak with an 8-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Friday night before 35,562 at Nationals Park.
Ian Desmond added two hits, two RBI and a pair of stolen bases as the Nationals came back from a 2-0 deficit and allowed the Orioles only four runs on 18 hits. Baltimore left 12 men on base.
“I feel good at the plate,” Desmond said. “We know we can hit and we are going to go out there and hit. It is going to come around sooner than later and now it is.”
Marquis was hittable against the Birds again, allowing 12 hits over 5 1/3 innings. In two games against the Orioles this season, Marquis has given up 20 hits and nine runs in 9 1/3 innings. The Orioles’ Derrek Lee went 5-for-5. But Washington’s defense recorded two double plays and Marquis never allowed a game changing hit.
Roger Bernadina crushed his third homer of the season and added 2 RBI.
The Nationals’ have won a season-high seven straight games and evened the Battle of the Beltways series a 2-2.
