The Washington Nationals have played, and won, many close games lately, but Thursday’s game looked like it was going to be different early on. Washington exploded for seven runs in the third inning and added another to take an eight run lead against the Chicago Cubs after just four innings. Things turned quickly when the Cubs struck for six in the sixth, including three off a Blake DeWitt home run, and tied it up with two more in the seventh. The teams exchanged runs in the eighth, but an RBI double from Chicago’s Darwin Barney proved to be the difference. The Nationals close up their first half of the season with a series against the Colorado Rockies in DC starting Friday.
